Mobile Assisted Language Learning

With the increased use of mobile technologies such as smartphones and tablets, the ways of reaching learning materials and opportunities for communication and collaboration have drastically evolved. The accessibility of online learning materials got better. The number of smartphone users has already reached 3 billion and is only expected to escalate over the next years. Language learners from different regions and cultures, at any level of language proficiency use these mobile computers. So, the educational potential of smartphones might be the biggest of all other computing devices. Yet, apart from individualistic approaches for learning a language (e.g., internet), the educational applicability of MALL is still not near to its potential. To make the most out of its potential, language teachers must take advantage of these devices by creating new opportunities for language learners.
